Brazil Biodiversity Partnership
The Brazil Biodiversity Partnership works in conjunction with Núcleo de Pesquisa e Conservação (NPC) (Center for Research and Conservation), a Brazilian non-governmental organization founded by Prof. Paulo Bezerra, a leading agronomist and game animal expert. All study tours are guided by Prof. Bezerra, who has been working for the past dozen years to repopulate game animals and marine life in the Brazilian forests and waterways, improve the health and lifestyle of the indigenous population, and develop medicinal ointments and other products using native Brazilian plants.

Prof. Bezerra
is featured in a National Geographic film on the environmental impact of the construction of the Porto Primavera Dam in south-central Brazil. (He led the team that captured and relocated the wildlife before the area was flooded by the dam.) His wide-ranging experience includes leading educational tours of international veterinarians, environmental specialists, University of Iowa professors, and students from the University of Illinois.

The BBP tours are entirely organized and funded by NPC. The expeditions are structured as cultural and educational exchange, not tourism. Proceeds from the trips, which are considered a donation, are used to support the work of NPC.

It is Prof. Bezerra's hope that individuals and groups who undertake expeditions with BBP will deepen their connection to Brazil and develop a long-lasting relationship with NPC by getting involved with sustainability projects that benefit Brazil's indigenous population.
